Porches Pottery is a traditional family-run pottery that employs skilled local artisans. We create the region’s most distinctive pots and tiles. Our pottery is an ideal trip for anyone with an interest in traditional crafts, local culture and art history. A visit with us is perfect for those who love something beyond the ordinary, not to mention something truly great to do on a rainy day!

How to recognise us from the road

You will see our long white wall emblazoned with big, distinctive blue letters that announce “Olaria Algarve - Porches Pottery”. Enter through the green gates to find us in a traditional Algarvean farmhouse-style building filled with an incredible variety of brightly decorated ceramics. Our workshop where we paint is actually in the shop.

What to expect

On a weekday, most likely you will see us at work painting and glazing pottery. You will also have the opportunity to buy something beautiful to take home. If you are travelling with hand luggage or something larger catches your eye, be sure to enquire about our shipping service. Afterwards, relax and enjoy a delicious light lunch in the lush gardens of our Bar Bacchus Café surrounded by some of the most breathtaking azulejos in Portugal.

Opening Hours:

We are open throughout the year

Monday to Friday - 09:00 until 18:00

Saturdays - 10:00 until 14:00

We close on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Directions by car:

• Exit the A22 motorway at Exit 7 'Alcantarilha'.
• You can no longer enter by crossing over the main road, so please carry on to the next round-about and return.
• Follow the EN125 road, direction of Portimão/Lagoa until you reach Porches village.
• Pass straight through the roundabout (do not enter the village), after 800m and you will find us on the left amongst the pine trees.

Coming from Portimão/Lagos direction, heading east:

• Exit the A22 motorway at Exit 6 'Lagoa'.
• After the Nobel International School we are the first pottery on the right before the village of Porches.
• Follow signs for Lagoa Sul to join the EN125 road, direction of Faro/Porches.
• Continue for 3.8kms
